When Laura Rosetta Maude Gibbs was born on 12 August 1891 in Coulsdon, Surrey, her father, George, was 38, and her mother, Jane, was 32.

- 1901 Census
- In 1901, Laura (aged 9) was one of nine children living at home with her parents, George and Jane M, at 1 Halls Cottage, Coulsdon, Surrey.
- George (aged 47) was a Lime Burner, and was born in Brighton, Sussex. His wife, Jane M (aged 42), was born in Coulsdon, Surrey.
- Laura's siblings were: George (aged 21) who was a farm labourer, Elizabeth (aged 18), James (aged 16) who was a farm labourer, Jane M (aged 11), Alice B (aged 7), William (aged 5), Ernest F (aged 2) and Arthur (aged 11 Months).
- With only four rooms at the cottage, it must have been extremely tight for all of them!
- 1911 Census
- On Monday 3 April 1911, my great-grandmother was now living at 15 Chipstead Villas, Coulsdon, Surrey, which was a single room in a tenement block. Aged 20, she was born in Coulsdon.
- She is now married to John Henry, aged 24, who was born in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire and his occupation is that of a plasterer, following in his father's footsteps. It says they have been married only a year, and have yet to have any children.

- Baptism Register 1891
- Here is a copy of the baptism register with my great-grandmother's listing. She was baptised on 3 October 1891, and her parents are both listed, along with George's occupation. Their 'abode' is registered as Marpit Lane.
- Marriage Register 1911
- Here is a copy of the marriage register for my great-grandmother. Dated 27 February 1911, the marriage took place at The Parish Church in Coulsdon, Surrey. Laura Rosetta Maude Gibbs is aged 19, and her father, George Gibbs, is listed as a labourer.
- John Henry, her husband and my great-grandfather, is aged 24, and a plasterer by trade. His father is listed as Richard Hanbury Collett, who is also a plasterer.
- Interestingly, they both list 15 Chipstead Villas as their residence, suggesting they had been living together before getting married.
- The two witnesses are G Gibbs (presumably Laura's father, my great-great grandfather) and Jane Gibbs (Laura's sister).

- In 1918, my great-grandmother was registered to vote at 15 Chipstead Villas, in the Parish of Coulsdon, Surrey.

- In 1919, my great-grandmother was registered to vote at 15 Chipstead Villas, in the Parish of Coulsdon, Surrey.

- In 1919, my great-grandmother was registered to vote at 14 Chipstead Villas, in the Parish of Coulsdon, Surrey.

- In 1929, my great-grandmother was registered to vote at 20 Chipstead Valley Road in the Parish of Coulsdon.

- In 1939, Laura R was living at 5 Edward Road, Coulsdon, Surrey, with her husband John Henry and her daughter, Nellie (who whilst it says is still single, has had her surname changed from Collett to Finch!).
- Laura R's date of birth is listed as 12 August 1891, and that she undertakes 'unpaid domestic duties', presumably meaning a housewife.
- John Henry's date of birth is listed as 16 May 1886, and he is a plasterer by trade.
- Nellie's date of birth is listed as 17 December 1919, and that she is a shop assistant.
