  • Thomas (aged 12) is an agricultural labourer (presumably working with his father) from Horley, Sussex.

  • Thomas and Elizabeth also have an additional charge living with them, Harry Coomber (aged 2) who is listed as a 'nurse-child' from Horsemonger Lane Jail. (It looks like the rest of the Coomber family were in a neighbouring property, and presumably his mother spent some time in the Southwark County Jail.)
  • 1881 Census
  • In 1881, George (aged 27) was now married to J M with two children (Thomas and George) living at No 7 Star Cottages, Chipstead, Surrey.

  • With only four rooms at the cottage, it must have been extremely tight for all of them!
  • 1911 Census
  • In 1911, George (aged 58) and Jane (aged 50) are now living at 15 Chipstead Villas, Coulsdon, Surrey, along with six children (James, Alice, William, Earnest, Arthur and Herbert) and his niece, Kathleen Lightfoot.
